  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WE711 - Last EAN in number range & & has been assigned ?

    SAP Error Message:
WE711 - Last EAN in number range & & has been assigned

    Cause:

The error message WE711 occurs when the system tries to assign a new EAN (European Article Number) or GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) but finds that the number range allocated for EANs is exhausted. In other words, the last number in the configured number range interval for EANs has already been assigned, and there are no more numbers left to allocate.

This typically happens in scenarios where EANs are generated automatically by SAP (e.g., in logistics, material master, or IDoc processing) and the number range object controlling EAN assignment has reached its upper limit.

    Explanation:

    • Number Range Object: SAP uses number ranges to control the assignment of unique identifiers like EANs.
    • Number Range Interval: Each number range has a lower and upper limit.
    • When the system tries to assign a new EAN, it increments the current number.
    • If the current number equals the upper limit, no further numbers can be assigned, triggering the WE711 error.

    Solution:

    1. Check the Number Range Interval:

      • Use transaction SNRO or SNRS to check the number range object related to EANs.
      • The number range object for EANs is often EAN or a custom object depending on your system configuration.
    2. Extend the Number Range Interval:

      • If the current number range is exhausted, create a new number range interval with a higher upper limit.
      • Assign this new interval to the number range object.
    3. Adjust Number Range Assignment:

      • Ensure that the number range intervals are properly assigned and active.
      • If multiple intervals exist, check that the system can switch to the next interval automatically or manually adjust the current number.
    4. Check Customizing:

      • Go to SPRO ? Logistics General ? Material Master ? Settings for Key Fields ? Define Number Ranges for EANs (or similar path depending on your SAP version).
      • Verify the number range intervals and adjust as necessary.
    5. Transport Changes:

      • If changes are made in a development or quality system, transport them to production.
    6. Test:

      • After extending the number range, test the creation of new EANs to confirm the issue is resolved.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • SNRO - Number Range Objects maintenance
      • WE02 / WE05 - IDoc monitoring (if EAN assignment is related to IDocs)
      • SPRO - Customizing for number ranges
    • Notes:

      • Always ensure number ranges do not overlap.
      • Monitor number ranges regularly to avoid running out of numbers.
      • If EANs are assigned manually, check for duplicate entries.
    • SAP Help / Documentation:

      • SAP Library on Number Range Objects
      • SAP Notes related to EAN and number range exhaustion

    Summary:

    Aspect Details
Cause Number range for EANs is exhausted (last number assigned)
Effect System cannot assign new EAN, error WE711 triggered
Solution Extend number range interval for EANs via SNRO/SPRO
Check Number range object, intervals, customizing settings
