  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WC009 - You are not authorized to delete the specified log ?

The SAP error message WC009, which states "You are not authorized to delete the specified log," typically occurs when a user attempts to delete a log entry or log file in the SAP system but does not have the necessary authorization to perform that action. This can happen in various contexts, such as when dealing with application logs, change logs, or other types of logs within the SAP environment.

    Cause:

    1. Authorization Issues: The primary cause of this error is that the user lacks the required authorization object to delete logs. SAP uses a role-based access control system, and if the user's role does not include the necessary permissions, they will encounter this error.
    2. Configuration Settings: Sometimes, the system configuration may restrict certain actions based on business rules or compliance requirements.
    3. Log Type Restrictions: Certain logs may have specific restrictions on deletion based on their type or the data they contain.

    Solution:

    1. Check User Authorizations:

      • Use transaction code SU53 immediately after encountering the error to check which authorization check failed. This will provide insight into what specific authorization is missing.
      • Review the user's roles and authorizations in transaction code PFCG. Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to delete logs. The relevant authorization objects may include:
        • S_LOG_COM (for log management)
        • S_LOG_AUTH (for log authorization)
      • If the user does not have the required authorizations, you may need to work with your SAP security team to update the user's roles.
    2. Request Additional Authorizations:

      • If the user needs to perform this action regularly, consider requesting additional authorizations from the SAP security team or system administrator.
    3. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or internal guidelines regarding log management and deletion policies to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
    4. System Configuration:

      • If the issue persists and the user should have the necessary authorizations, check if there are any system-wide settings or configurations that might be preventing log deletion.
    5. Contact Support:

      • If you are unable to resolve the issue through the above steps, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting SAP Notes for any known issues related to this error message.
