What causes this issue?

To use the create with N:M reference function you need at least two
different trading contract types with different side information. If the
current trading contract is, for example, a purchase-side trading
contract you have to select a sales-side trading contract.
It is also not possible to choose a two-sided trading contract for
create with N:M reference.

System Response

The system does not allow the creation with N:M reference for the chosen
trading contract type.

How to fix this error?

Select a trading contract that can be used as an association partner.

Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
