  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message W7072 - No value-only material found for material &1 and plant &2 ?

Certainly! Here's a detailed explanation for the SAP error message:

    SAP Error Message:

W7072 No value-only material found for material &1 and plant &2

    Meaning / Cause:

This warning message occurs when the system tries to find a value-only material for a given material and plant but cannot find one.

    • Value-only material refers to a special type of material master record used in certain inventory valuation scenarios, especially in consignment or subcontracting processes, or when using special stock types.
    • The system expects a value-only material to exist for the specified material and plant to perform valuation or stock update but fails to find it.
    • This can happen if the value-only material has not been created or maintained properly in the system.

    When does it occur?

    • During goods movements or inventory postings involving special stock types.
    • When the system tries to post a movement that requires a value-only material (e.g., consignment stock, subcontracting stock).
    • In valuation or inventory update processes where the system expects a value-only material for the plant.

    Solution / How to fix:

    1. Check if the value-only material exists:

      • Use transaction MM03 (Display Material) to check if the value-only material exists for the given material and plant.
      • Value-only materials usually have a special indicator or are created as separate material masters linked to the original material.
    2. Create or maintain the value-only material:

      • If it does not exist, create the value-only material master record.
      • This can be done by copying the original material and setting it as a value-only material.
      • Ensure the material type and valuation class are correctly maintained.
      • Sometimes, this involves creating a material with a specific material type (e.g., DIEN for services or a special material type used for value-only materials).
    3. Check configuration for special stock types:

      • Verify the configuration in Inventory Management and Valuation to ensure that the system is correctly set up to handle value-only materials.
      • Check the settings in transaction OMS2 (Material Types) and valuation classes.
    4. Check the movement type and stock type:

      • Ensure that the movement type used in the transaction is correctly configured to handle value-only materials.
      • Verify if the stock type (e.g., consignment, subcontracting) requires a value-only material and that it is properly maintained.
    5. Consult SAP Notes:

      • Sometimes, SAP releases notes or patches related to this issue. Check the SAP Support Portal for any relevant notes.

    Additional Information:

    • Value-only materials are often used in scenarios where the physical stock is not managed in the usual way, but valuation or accounting entries are still required.
    • This message is a warning (W), so the system may allow the transaction to proceed, but it indicates a potential issue in valuation or stock management.
    • Proper maintenance of value-only materials is crucial for accurate inventory valuation and financial reporting.
