  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message VW807 - The total weight cannot be calculated due to field overflow ?

The SAP error message VW807, which states "The total weight cannot be calculated due to field overflow," typically occurs in the context of logistics and transportation management within the SAP system. This error indicates that the system is unable to calculate the total weight of a shipment or delivery because the weight value exceeds the maximum limit that can be stored in the designated field.

    Causes:

    1. Excessive Weight Values: The most common cause is that the total weight of the items being processed exceeds the maximum value that can be stored in the weight field. This can happen if you are dealing with a large number of items or if the individual weights of the items are very high.
    2. Data Type Limitations: The weight field in SAP may have a specific data type (e.g., integer, decimal) with a defined maximum value. If the total weight exceeds this limit, the overflow error will occur.
    3. Incorrect Unit of Measure: If the unit of measure for weight is incorrectly set or if there are discrepancies in the conversion factors, it can lead to inflated weight calculations.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Item Weights: Review the weights of the individual items in the shipment. Ensure that they are correctly entered and that there are no erroneous values.
    2. Adjust Data Types: If you have control over the data model, consider adjusting the data type of the weight field to accommodate larger values. This may require development work and should be done with caution.
    3. Split Shipments: If the total weight is too high, consider splitting the shipment into smaller batches that fall within the acceptable weight limits.
    4. Review Configuration: Check the configuration settings related to weight calculations in the SAP system. Ensure that the units of measure and conversion factors are correctly set up.
    5. Consult SAP Notes: Look for any relevant SAP Notes or patches that may address this specific error. SAP frequently releases updates that can resolve known issues.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may encounter this error while using transaction codes related to delivery processing, such as VL01N (Create Outbound Delivery) or VL02N (Change Outbound Delivery).
    • Weight Fields: Familiarize yourself with the specific fields used for weight calculations in your SAP configuration, such as the "Net Weight" and "Gross Weight" fields.
    • SAP Support: If the issue persists after trying the above solutions, consider reaching out to SAP support for further assistance. They can provide insights based on your specific system configuration and version.
