Message number: 551
Message text: Characteristic &1 in class &2 has empty domain restriction
Class specific information about the value domain of the given
characteristic results in an empty domain restriction.
This can occur if such information has been maintained both in class
maintenance (transaction CL01-03) and in class-to-superclass allocation
(transaction CL22N) and if the domains maintained there have an empty
intersection.
The knowledgebase runtime version does NOT include the class specific
information about the value domain.
Check if you can simplify your class maintenance to ensure that value
domains are only maintained consistently in one place.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

VSCE551
- Characteristic &1 in class &2 has empty domain restriction ?The SAP error message VSCE551 indicates that a characteristic in a class has an empty domain restriction. This typically occurs in the context of classification in SAP, where characteristics are used to define the properties of objects in a class.
Cause:
The error arises when:
- A characteristic (e.g., a property or attribute) defined in a class does not have a valid domain restriction. A domain restriction specifies the permissible values for that characteristic.
- The characteristic may have been defined without a domain, or the domain has been deleted or is not properly assigned.
Solution:
To resolve the VSCE551 error, you can follow these steps:
Check the Characteristic Definition:
- Go to the transaction code
CT04
(Characteristic Maintenance).- Enter the characteristic name (the one indicated in the error message) and check its settings.
- Ensure that the characteristic has a valid domain assigned.
Assign a Domain:
- If the characteristic does not have a domain, you need to assign a valid domain that defines the permissible values for that characteristic.
- You can create a new domain if necessary using transaction code
CT02
(Domain Maintenance).Check Class Assignment:
- Go to transaction code
CL02
(Class Maintenance) and check the class (the one indicated in the error message) to ensure that the characteristic is correctly assigned to the class.- Make sure that the characteristic is included in the class and that it is set up correctly.
Review Dependencies:
- If the characteristic is dependent on other characteristics or classes, ensure that those dependencies are correctly defined and that they do not lead to an empty domain.
Test Changes:
- After making the necessary changes, test the classification process again to ensure that the error is resolved.
