SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: VSB - Self-Billing Procedure Messages

  • Message number: 261

  • Message text: No unit of measure in transmitted item

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

No (ISO) unit of measure was determined in the item. Entries for the
unit of measure are expected in the IDoc in the segment/field
    E1EDP01-MENEE.

    System Response

The item cannot be correctly processed without the unit of measure.

    How to fix this error?

You can specify the unit of measure using the function "Process Errors".
However, the following must be observed:
Missing entries on the unit of measure is an error that has to be
eliminated. Either your customer does not transfer units of measure
correctly, or there are incorrect settings when transferring data from
the EDI subsystem to the SAP IDoc interface (mapping).
If you specify a unit of measure with the function "Process Errors",
this has to be a valid ISO unit of measure (for example "PCE"). Here,
you must ensure that this is an example of the correct unit of measure,
and that it is used for this material as either a base or a sales unit.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message VSB261 - No unit of measure in transmitted item ?

The SAP error message VSB261 "No unit of measure in transmitted item" typically occurs in the context of sales and distribution (SD) or materials management (MM) when a transaction is processed that requires a unit of measure (UoM) but none is provided for a specific item. This can happen during various processes, such as sales order creation, delivery, or invoice processing.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Unit of Measure: The most common cause is that the item in question does not have a unit of measure defined in the material master or in the sales order.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: The configuration settings for the material or the sales document type may not be set up correctly, leading to the absence of a unit of measure.
    3. Data Entry Error: During manual entry, the user may have forgotten to specify the unit of measure for the item.
    4. Integration Issues: If the data is being transmitted from another system (like an external ERP), there may be issues with the data mapping or transmission that result in missing UoM information.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master:

      • Go to the material master record (transaction code MM03) and ensure that the unit of measure is defined for the material in question. Check both the basic data and sales views.
    2. Review Sales Order:

      • If the error occurs during sales order processing, check the sales order (transaction code VA03) to ensure that the unit of measure is specified for each line item.
    3. Configuration Settings:

      • Review the configuration settings in SPRO for sales and distribution or materials management to ensure that the unit of measure settings are correctly defined for the relevant document types.
    4. Data Entry:

      • If the error is due to manual entry, ensure that users are trained to enter the unit of measure when creating sales orders or other relevant documents.
    5. Integration Check:

      • If the data is coming from an external system, check the integration settings and mappings to ensure that the unit of measure is being transmitted correctly.
    6. Debugging:

      • If the issue persists, consider debugging the transaction to identify where the unit of measure is being lost or not set.

    Related Information:

    • Unit of Measure Types: Understand the different types of units of measure (base unit, sales unit, order unit, etc.) and how they relate to each other in SAP.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as MM03 (Display Material), VA03 (Display Sales Order), and SPRO (Customizing).
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message.
