What causes this issue?

The <DS:DE.LIFEX>external identification number</> contains more than
16 characters. The reference number is limited to 16 characters in
invoice verification and material documents.

System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

How to fix this error?

Reduce the external identification number to a maximum of 16 characters
if you want to guarantee that it will be referenced in invoice
verification.
