Message type: E = Error
Message class: VBDRV - Derivation of Batch Characteristics
Message number: 038
Message text: Derivation &1 is invalid: sender attribute &2 in batch &3 is changed
The attribute &V2& was changed in batch &V3&.
The sender attribute &V2&, however, was sent in derivation (no. &V1&).
Changing the sender attribute &V2& does not guarantee that another
derivation would be consistent with derivation &V1&.
The <DS:DE.DRVSTAT>status</> of derivation no. &V1& is set to a status
that indicates that the derivation is no longer up-to-date.
Check the derivation and the values of the receiving batch.
Correct the receiving batch if necessary.
You can then reconvert the status of the derivation in the derivation
monitor.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

VBDRV038
- Derivation &1 is invalid: sender attribute &2 in batch &3 is changed ?The SAP error message VBDRV038 indicates that there is an issue with the derivation of a certain attribute in the context of batch processing. Specifically, it suggests that the sender attribute for a batch has been changed, which is causing the derivation to be invalid.
Cause:
- Attribute Change: The sender attribute (e.g., material, plant, or batch) has been modified after the derivation was initially set up. This could happen due to manual changes or updates in the master data.
- Inconsistent Data: There may be inconsistencies in the data related to the batch or sender attributes, leading to the derivation not being able to find a valid mapping.
- Configuration Issues: The configuration settings for the derivation process may not be correctly set up, leading to errors when trying to derive values based on the sender attributes.
Solution:
- Check Sender Attributes: Review the sender attributes for the batch in question. Ensure that they are correctly set and have not been changed unexpectedly.
- Review Derivation Rules: Check the derivation rules in the configuration. Make sure that they are correctly defined and that the sender attributes are valid for the derivation process.
- Data Consistency: Ensure that the data related to the batch and sender attributes is consistent and correct. This may involve checking the master data for the materials, plants, or batches involved.
- Reprocess the Batch: If the issue is resolved, you may need to reprocess the batch or the relevant transactions to ensure that the derivation can occur without errors.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to the specific version you are using for any known issues or additional troubleshooting steps.
