  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message USMD1550 - Model &1, entity type &2: Source fields for texts must not be entered ?

The SAP error message USMD1550 typically occurs in the context of SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) when you are trying to create or modify a data model. This specific error indicates that there is an issue with the configuration of source fields for text entities in your data model.

    Cause:

The error message "Source fields for texts must not be entered" suggests that you have defined source fields for a text entity in a way that is not allowed. In SAP MDG, text entities are meant to hold descriptive information (like names or descriptions) and should not have source fields associated with them. This is because text fields are generally derived from the main entity and do not require separate source fields.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you should check the configuration of your data model, specifically the entity type mentioned in the error message. Here are the steps you can take:

    1. Access the Data Model Configuration:

      • Go to the relevant transaction in SAP MDG (e.g., MDGIMG) to access the data model configuration.
    2. Identify the Entity Type:

      • Locate the entity type mentioned in the error message (replace &1 and &2 with the actual model and entity type names).
    3. Review Text Fields:

      • Check the configuration of the text fields associated with the entity type. Ensure that there are no source fields defined for these text fields.
    4. Remove Source Fields:

      • If you find any source fields defined for the text fields, remove them. Text fields should not have source fields associated with them.
    5. Save and Activate:

      • After making the necessary changes, save your configuration and activate the data model.
    6. Test the Changes:

      • Try to create or modify the data again to see if the error persists.
