Message type: E = Error
Message class: UPP_PP_K - Messages for Planning Processor Core
Message number: 044
Message text: Combination of characteristic values does not match the char. hierarchy
In the planning layout you selected the indicator 'Planning in
characteristic hierarchy'. In manual planning a hierarchy is generated
by the system, which is defined by the sequence of characteristics in
the lead column.
<ZH>Example</>: The first lead column contains the characteristic
'Article group' and the second lead column contains the characteristic
'Article'. There are the article groups 'AG1' and 'AG2' as well as the
article 'A1' and 'A2'. The following values were entered:
Article group,,Article,,Value
Article group,,Article,,200
#,,#,,100
AG1,,Article,,50
,,#,,20
,,A1,,10
,,A2,,20
AG2,,Article,,50
and so on.
In this '#' stands for the characteristic value 'Not assigned'. In this
characteristic hierarchy, the characteristic combination '# #'
belongs to the total. The value entered to this combination corresponds
exactly to the value that can still be distributed. Analogue the value
for combination ' AG1 #' corresponds to the value that can be
distributed to the article within article group AG1.
In other words: The value for '#' always corresponds to the difference
between the cumulated values that were entered for concrete
characteristic values and the value to be distributed in total in the
corresponding hierarchy level.
In this hierarchy of characteristics, for example the combination of
the form '# A1' cannot occur. Threrefore it is not accepted by the
system.
With a manual entry, the newly entered combination of characteristic
values is not accepted by the system.
If this message occurs in the additional log, the combination of
characteristic values belonging to it, is not taken into account when
forming the sreen.
Proceed in one of the following ways:
Delete the invalid combination of characteristic values.
If this message occurs in the additional log of manual planning, then
the characteristic combination concerned was already in the database,
was generated with a planning function, or in accordance with the
Customizing to the characteristic combinations or entered in a planning
layout without a characteristic hierarchy. You should then delete the
objects concerned with a suitable planning layout or a planning
function. You can find the invalid combination of characteristic values
in the additional log with the function 'Detail'.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

UPP_PP_K044
- Combination of characteristic values does not match the char. hierarchy ?The SAP error message UPP_PP_K044, which states "Combination of characteristic values does not match the char. hierarchy," typically occurs in the context of SAP's Advanced Planning and Optimization (APO) or similar modules where characteristics and their hierarchies are used to define product attributes and planning parameters.
Cause:
This error arises when there is an inconsistency between the characteristic values assigned to a product and the defined hierarchy of those characteristics. Specifically, it indicates that the combination of characteristic values does not conform to the rules set in the characteristic hierarchy. This can happen due to:
- Incorrect Characteristic Value Assignment: The values assigned to the characteristics of a product do not match the allowed combinations defined in the hierarchy.
- Hierarchy Changes: If the characteristic hierarchy has been modified (e.g., values added or removed), existing products may no longer comply with the new hierarchy.
- Data Entry Errors: Manual entry errors when assigning characteristic values can lead to invalid combinations.
- Master Data Issues: Problems with the master data setup, such as missing or incorrectly defined characteristics or hierarchies.
Solution:
To resolve the UPP_PP_K044 error, you can take the following steps:
Check Characteristic Values:
- Review the characteristic values assigned to the product in question.
- Ensure that the combination of values is valid according to the characteristic hierarchy.
Review Characteristic Hierarchy:
- Access the characteristic hierarchy in the SAP system and verify that the values assigned to the product are included in the hierarchy.
- If changes have been made to the hierarchy, ensure that all products are updated accordingly.
Correct Data Entry:
- If the error is due to manual data entry, correct the characteristic values to match valid combinations.
Update Master Data:
- If there are issues with the master data, consider updating the characteristic definitions or hierarchies to ensure they are accurate and complete.
Use Transaction Codes:
- Use transaction codes like
CT04
(to maintain characteristics) andCT05
(to maintain characteristic values) to check and update the relevant data.Consult Documentation:
- Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on characteristic hierarchies and valid combinations.
Testing:
- After making changes, test the configuration by attempting to process the product again to ensure the error is resolved.
Related Information:
If the problem persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with an SAP expert or support team for further assistance.
