Message class: UPP_PP_K - Messages for Planning Processor Core
Message number: 030
Message text: Overlapping characteristic values were maintained for characteristic '&1'
When maintaining the selections in the current planning level or
current planning package for characteristic '&V1&', you maintained
several values.
Among these values, the system came across one or more of the following
situations:
One or more individual values appeared several times.
One or more individual values are also contained in an interval.
Intervals overlap.
These cases can also occur when a <ZH>BW hierarchy</> was defined in
the planning level or planning package. In this case, the selection
alone is determined from the pages of the hierarchy on the hierarchy
characteristic; this message is also issued when pages occur several
times. This is also the case when the hierarchy characteristic itself
is compounded and differs in a higher-level characteristic. Only the
share of characteristic values is relevant for the selection, which
result from the hierarchy-bearing characteristic.
Selection values of this type are not supported within manual planning.
Manual planning cannot be called up with the current planning level or
planning package.
First, determine whether the selections for the characteristic are
stored in the planning level or the planning package. Then, change the
selections there so that no more overlapping occurs.
If this message occurs when using an <ZH>BW hierarchy</>, then remove
the double characteristic values on the hierarchy characteristic. If
the hierarchy is compounded and the overlapping characteristic values
only occur because the higher-level characteristics are ignored in the
selection, then you can still use the hierarchy in the selection if you
access a subnode. In this subtree, the higher-level characteristics
should then have the same value and the pages should also not occur
several times.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

UPP_PP_K030
- Overlapping characteristic values were maintained for characteristic '&1' ?The SAP error message UPP_PP_K030 indicates that there are overlapping characteristic values defined for a specific characteristic in the context of SAP's Advanced Planning and Optimization (APO) or similar modules. This typically occurs when the same characteristic is assigned multiple values that overlap in their definitions, which can lead to ambiguity in planning and execution processes.
Cause:
The error is caused by the following scenarios:
- Overlapping Ranges: Two or more characteristic values are defined in such a way that their ranges overlap. For example, if you have a characteristic for "Size" and you define one value as "Small" for the range 1-5 and another as "Medium" for the range 4-8, there is an overlap (the value 4 and 5 are included in both ranges).
- Duplicate Entries: There may be duplicate entries for the same characteristic value in the master data.
- Incorrect Configuration: The configuration of the characteristic values may not have been set up correctly, leading to conflicts.
Solution:
To resolve the UPP_PP_K030 error, you can take the following steps:
Review Characteristic Values:
- Go to the configuration settings for the characteristic in question.
- Check the defined values and their ranges to identify any overlaps.
Adjust Ranges:
- Modify the ranges of the overlapping characteristic values to ensure that they do not conflict. Ensure that each value has a distinct range without any overlaps.
Remove Duplicates:
- If there are duplicate entries, remove or consolidate them to ensure that each characteristic value is unique.
Validate Configuration:
- After making changes, validate the configuration to ensure that the error is resolved. You can do this by running a test scenario that previously triggered the error.
Consult Documentation:
- Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on defining characteristic values and ranges.
Testing:
- After making the necessary adjustments, perform thorough testing to ensure that the changes do not affect other areas of the system.
