What causes this issue?

The 'Search' function cannot be executed at the moment since no
suitable hierarchical list is selected. You can either use the function
in planning or in planning profiles. To use the function in planning
profiles, a profile must be in the display or change mode. You can call
up the search function after you have selected an entry in the
hierarchical list of all planning objects (upper left in the detail
area).

How to fix this error?

Use the function in planning or go into the display or change mode of a
profile.
