Message type: E = Error
Message class: UMG - Message Class for the Unicode Migration Tool.
Message number: 410
Message text: Transaction SPUMG is currently locked. Finish &1 first.
You called transaction SPUMG but it cannot be executed in its current
status.
Reason: According to the status table UM4STATUS you are currently
conducting a CU<(>&<)>UC conversion. As one of the last preparation
steps you have to execute report &V1&. Currently not all steps are
finished.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Make sure that you finish all steps of the report &V1& first. After that
SPUMG can be executed again.
In case you have to execute transaction SPUMG you can use the following
workaround to unlock SPUMG:
Execute transaction SE24 (class builder)
Enter class CL_UMG_INFO and execute the class (F8)
Confirm the popup asking for generic data types
On the next screen execute method EXPORT_HW_TIMESTAMP using the current
date and time as input parameters
Execute method EXPORT_FIRST_CUUC_STEP using the current date and time as
input parameters.
After execution of the methods you can execute transaction SPUMG.

- Transaction SPUMG is currently locked. Finish &1 first. ?The SAP error message UMG410 indicates that the transaction SPUMG (which is used for the Upgrade Manager) is currently locked, and you need to finish the ongoing process before you can start a new one. This typically occurs during system upgrades or when changes are being made to the system that require exclusive access.
Cause:
- Ongoing Upgrade Process: The most common cause is that an upgrade or a similar process is currently running, which locks the transaction.
- Incomplete Previous Session: If a previous session of SPUMG was not completed properly, it may still hold a lock.
- System Lock: Sometimes, system locks can occur due to various reasons, such as a crash or a manual termination of a process.
Solution:
Check for Active Processes:
- Use transaction

to check for lock entries related to SPUMG. You can filter by the user or the transaction code.- If you find any locks that are no longer needed, you can delete them (ensure that you understand the implications of doing this).
Review Logs:
- Check the logs for the upgrade process (transaction
SPUMG
or related logs) to see if there are any errors or messages that indicate why the process is still running or locked.Restart the Upgrade Process:
- If the previous process is confirmed to be stuck and you have resolved any issues, you may need to restart the upgrade process.
System Restart:
- In some cases, a system restart may be necessary to clear locks, but this should be done with caution and typically as a last resort.
