Message text: Node &1 has an ambiguous sequence of subnodes
When reading the hierarchy structure from remote storage (BW or ERP) the
following error occurs:
Node &v1& appears repeatedly, and has an <ZH>irregular sequence to its
subnodes</>.
The following found locations are problematic: hierarchies &v2&, &v3&,
hierarchy version &v4&.
In the application, only a standard node structure for all hierarchies
is supported. Consequently, in this instance only the sequence of the
subnodes according to the first found location is transferred.
The display of the hierarchy in the application does not therefore
correspond to what is expected.
Standardize the definition of the hierarchies concerned so that the same
nodes within the same validity (version, time) always occur with the
same subnodes in the same sequence in all places.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

UGMD506
- Node &1 has an ambiguous sequence of subnodes ?The SAP error message UGMD506 indicates that there is an ambiguity in the sequence of subnodes for a specific node in a hierarchical structure, such as a master data structure or a configuration in SAP. This typically occurs in scenarios involving data models, such as those used in SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) or other applications that utilize hierarchical data structures.
Cause:
The ambiguity arises when the system encounters multiple paths or sequences that can lead to the same subnode, making it unclear which path should be followed. This can happen due to:
- Duplicate Entries: There may be duplicate entries in the hierarchy that lead to the same subnode.
- Incorrect Configuration: The configuration of the nodes and their relationships may not be set up correctly, leading to conflicting paths.
- Data Integrity Issues: There may be issues with the data integrity, such as missing or incorrectly linked nodes.
Solution:
To resolve the UGMD506 error, you can follow these steps:
Check the Hierarchy Structure:
- Review the hierarchy structure for the node in question. Ensure that there are no duplicate entries or conflicting paths leading to the same subnode.
Validate Node Relationships:
- Ensure that the relationships between nodes are correctly defined. Each node should have a clear and unique path to its subnodes.
Data Cleanup:
- If duplicates or incorrect entries are found, clean up the data by removing or correcting the entries that cause ambiguity.
Use Transaction Codes:
- Utilize relevant transaction codes (like
MDG_MAT
for material master data) to check and maintain the hierarchy structure.Consult Documentation:
- Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on managing hierarchical data structures in your version of SAP.
Testing:
- After making changes, test the hierarchy to ensure that the error no longer occurs and that the data behaves as expected.
Seek Support:
- If the issue persists, consider reaching out to SAP support or consulting with an SAP expert who can provide more tailored assistance based on your specific configuration and data.
Related Information:
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the ambiguity causing the UGMD506 error in your SAP system.
