This can happen in various scenarios, such as when using the SAP Central User Management (CUM) or when making changes that impact multiple database instances.
Cause:
- Concurrent Changes: The error may arise when multiple users or processes are trying to change settings that affect multiple databases at the same time.
- Configuration Issues: There may be inconsistencies in the configuration settings across different databases that are being accessed or modified.
- Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to make changes that affect multiple databases.
- System Locking: The system may have locking mechanisms in place that prevent changes to certain settings while they are being accessed or modified by another process.
Solution:
- Check for Concurrent Sessions: Ensure that no other users or processes are trying to change the same settings at the same time. If possible, coordinate with other users to avoid conflicts.
- Review Authorizations: Verify that the user has the necessary authorizations to make changes across multiple databases. If not, consult with your SAP security administrator to obtain the required permissions.
- Consistency Check: Perform a consistency check on the settings across the databases to identify any discrepancies. This may involve reviewing configuration settings and ensuring they are aligned.
- System Lock Release: If the error is due to system locking, you may need to wait for the lock to be released or contact your system administrator to investigate and resolve any locking issues.
- Use Transaction Codes: If applicable, use specific transaction codes (like SU01 for user management) to make changes in a controlled manner, ensuring that you are not affecting multiple databases unintentionally.
