- Billing period is shorter than meter reading period of meter reading unit ?The SAP error message TU008, which states "Billing period is shorter than meter reading period of meter reading unit," typically occurs in the context of billing and meter reading processes in SAP IS-U (Industry Solution for Utilities). This error indicates a mismatch between the billing period defined for a billing document and the meter reading period associated with the meter reading unit.
Cause:
- Mismatch in Periods: The billing period defined in the billing document is shorter than the meter reading period for the associated meter reading unit. For example, if the meter reading period is set to cover a month, but the billing period is set to cover only a week, this error will occur.
- Configuration Issues: Incorrect configuration in the billing or meter reading settings can lead to this error. This includes settings in the device management or billing master data.
- Data Entry Errors: Manual entry errors when defining billing or meter reading periods can also lead to this issue.
Solution:

- Check Meter Reading Unit Configuration: Verify the configuration of the meter reading unit in the system. Ensure that the meter reading period is set correctly and aligns with the billing periods used in your billing documents.
- Review Master Data: Check the master data for the relevant contracts, devices, and billing documents to ensure that all periods are correctly defined and consistent.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on configuring billing and meter reading periods in your version of SAP IS-U.
