  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message TR698 - Basis objects cannot be created in application systems ?

The SAP error message TR698, which states "Basis objects cannot be created in application systems," typically occurs when there is an issue with the transport management system (TMS) configuration or when trying to create transport requests for basis objects in a non-Basis system.

    Causes:

    1. Transport Layer Configuration: The transport layer may not be correctly configured for the system where you are trying to create the transport request.
    2. System Type: The system type may not be set correctly. For example, if you are trying to create basis objects in a non-Basis system (like a development or quality assurance system), it may not be allowed.
    3. Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to create transport requests for basis objects.
    4. Transport Directory Issues: There may be issues with the transport directory or the transport routes that prevent the creation of transport requests.
    5. Transport Request Type: The type of transport request being created may not be appropriate for the objects being transported.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Transport Layer: Ensure that the transport layer is correctly configured for the system. You can do this by checking the TMS configuration in transaction STMS.
    2. Verify System Type: Make sure that the system type is set correctly in the TMS configuration. Basis objects should typically be created in a system designated as a development system.
    3. User Authorizations: Check the user authorizations to ensure that the user has the necessary permissions to create transport requests for basis objects. You may need to consult with your security team to adjust roles and authorizations.
    4. Review Transport Directory: Check the transport directory for any inconsistencies or issues. You can use transaction SE01 to manage transport requests and check for any errors.
    5. Correct Transport Request Type: Ensure that you are using the correct type of transport request for the objects you are trying to create. For example, if you are trying to transport customizing objects, ensure you are using a customizing transport request.
