  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message SU2X041 - Application &1 still exists in system; deletion not permitted ?

The SAP error message SU2X041 indicates that an application (or object) you are trying to delete still exists in the system, and therefore, the deletion is not permitted. This error typically occurs in the context of user management or authorization management when attempting to delete a user, role, or profile that is still in use or has dependencies.

    Cause:

    1. Existing Dependencies: The application or object you are trying to delete is still being referenced by other objects or users in the system.
    2. Active Assignments: The object may have active assignments, such as users assigned to a role or profile that you are trying to delete.
    3. System Configuration: Certain configurations or settings in the system may prevent the deletion of specific applications or objects.

    Solution:

    1. Check Dependencies:

      • Use transaction codes like SU01 (User Maintenance), PFCG (Role Maintenance), or SUIM (User Information System) to check if the application or object is still in use.
      • Look for any users, roles, or profiles that are linked to the object you are trying to delete.
    2. Remove Assignments:

      • If the object is assigned to users or roles, you will need to remove those assignments before attempting to delete the object again.
      • For roles, you can use PFCG to check and remove users assigned to the role.
    3. Check for Active Sessions:

      • Ensure that there are no active sessions or transactions using the application or object. You can check active sessions using transaction code SM04 or AL08.
    4. Use Transaction SUIM:

      • Use the User Information System (SUIM) to find out where the application is being used. This can help identify any hidden dependencies.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or notes related to the specific application or object for any additional constraints or requirements for deletion.
    6. Authorization Check:

      • Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to delete the object. Lack of proper authorizations can also lead to this error.
