  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message SQLM072 - Can't release update job. Check job release authorization and react. SQLM ?

The SAP error message SQLM072, which states "Can't release update job. Check job release authorization and react," typically occurs when there is an issue with the authorization required to release an update job in the SAP system. This error is often related to the background processing of update requests, which are essential for ensuring that changes made in the system are processed correctly.

    Cause:

    1. Authorization Issues: The user attempting to release the update job may not have the necessary authorizations. This can happen if the user lacks the required roles or permissions to execute or release update jobs.
    2. Job Status: The update job may be in a status that does not allow it to be released, such as being in a "waiting" or "error" state.
    3. System Configuration: There may be configuration settings in the SAP system that restrict the release of update jobs based on certain criteria.

    Solution:

    1. Check User Authorizations:

      • Verify that the user has the necessary authorizations to release update jobs. This can be done by checking the user's roles and profiles in transaction SU01 (User Maintenance).
      • Ensure that the user has the appropriate authorization objects, such as S_BTCH_ADM (for background job administration) and S_BTCH_JOB (for job management).
    2. Review Job Status:

      • Use transaction SM37 (Job Monitoring) to check the status of the update job. Look for any errors or issues that may prevent the job from being released.
      • If the job is in an error state, investigate the cause of the error and resolve it before attempting to release the job again.
    3. Check System Configuration:

      • Review the system configuration related to update jobs. This may involve checking settings in transaction SM21 (System Log) or SCC4 (Client Administration) to ensure that there are no restrictions in place.
    4. Consult with Basis Team:

      • If the issue persists, it may be necessary to consult with the SAP Basis team or system administrator. They can provide insights into system-level configurations and logs that may not be accessible to regular users.
