  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message SGT_MAIN071 - Cannot enter seg. dependent MRP genral data; segment is not MRM relevant ?

The SAP error message SGT_MAIN071 indicates that there is an issue with entering segment-dependent MRP (Material Requirements Planning) general data because the segment in question is not relevant for MRM (Material Requirements Management). This typically occurs in the context of managing materials and their planning parameters in SAP.

    Cause:

    1. Segment Configuration: The segment you are trying to work with may not be configured to be relevant for MRP. This can happen if the segment is not set up correctly in the system or if it is not intended to be used for MRP purposes.
    2. Material Type: The material type associated with the segment may not support MRP functionalities. Certain material types are configured to be non-MRP relevant.
    3. MRP Settings: The MRP settings for the material or segment may not be properly defined, leading to the system rejecting the entry.
    4. Data Inconsistency: There may be inconsistencies in the master data that prevent the system from recognizing the segment as MRP relevant.

    Solution:

    1. Check Segment Configuration: Review the configuration of the segment in the SAP system. Ensure that it is set up to be MRP relevant. This can typically be done in the customizing settings (transaction code SPRO).
    2. Review Material Type: Verify the material type associated with the segment. If it is not MRP relevant, consider changing the material type or adjusting the settings to make it MRP relevant.
    3. Adjust MRP Settings: Go to the MRP settings for the material and ensure that all necessary parameters are correctly defined. This includes checking the MRP type, lot size, and other relevant fields.
    4. Data Consistency Check: Perform a consistency check on the master data to identify any discrepancies. You can use transaction codes like MM02 (Change Material) to review and correct the data.
    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on MRP settings and segment configurations.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as MM01 (Create Material), MM02 (Change Material), and SPRO (Customizing).
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message. SAP Notes can provide additional insights or solutions.
    • User Roles and Authorizations: Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to make changes to MRP settings and material master data.
    • Testing: After making changes, conduct tests to ensure that the error does not reoccur and that the MRP functionalities work as expected.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a technical consultant who can provide more in-depth analysis and assistance.
