What causes this issue?

When you create a variant BOM from a material, the segmentation
strategies of the existing material and the material for which the
variant BOM is being created are different.
Example
For material MAT_001, a BOM already exists and the segmentation strategy
is also defined. You try to create a variant BOM for another material
MAT_002 from MAT_001. However, as the segmentation strategies for
materials MAT_001 and MAT_002 are different, you cannot create a variant
BOM.

System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

How to fix this error?

You must maintain the same segmentation strategy for both the materials.
