Message text: &1 &3 > &2 &3 Utilized area of spool request queue exceeds threshold
The spool request queue takes on output requests from the dispatcher
queue. The requests remain in the queue until the processing of the
request is completed.
If it is a question of a general overload, increasing the size of the
spool request queue will not provide a solution. Instead, we recommend
that you increase the throughput by reconfiguring the SAP system:
Increase the number of spool work processes for this instance
Improve the distribution of output devices to spool servers
Increase the number of spool servers
If the number of output requests is more than can be processed only for
a short time, and there is enought time to process all requests betwen
the load peaks, increase the size of the spool request queue in the
profile parameter <ZH>rspo/global_shm/job_list</>. The standard and
minimum value is 50.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

RT167
- &1 &3 > &2 &3 Utilized area of spool request queue exceeds threshold ?The SAP error message RT167 indicates that the utilized area of the spool request queue has exceeded a predefined threshold. This can lead to issues with printing and spool requests in the SAP system. Here’s a breakdown of the cause, potential solutions, and related information for this error:
Cause:
- Spool Request Queue Limit: The spool request queue has a limit on the number of requests it can handle. When this limit is exceeded, the system generates the RT167 error message.
- High Volume of Print Jobs: A sudden increase in the number of print jobs or spool requests can lead to the queue being filled up quickly.
- Configuration Settings: The threshold settings for the spool request queue may be configured too low for the current workload.
- System Performance Issues: If the system is experiencing performance issues, it may not be processing spool requests efficiently, leading to a backlog.
Solution:
Increase Spool Queue Size:
- You can increase the size of the spool request queue by adjusting the configuration settings in the SAP system. This can be done in transaction SPAD (Spool Administration).
- Navigate to Spool Administration > Output Devices > Select the relevant output device > Change > Adjust the Maximum Number of Spool Requests.
Monitor and Manage Spool Requests:
- Regularly monitor the spool requests using transaction SP01 (Spool Request Management) to identify and delete any unnecessary or old spool requests that may be clogging the queue.
- You can also set up background jobs to clean up old spool requests periodically.
Adjust Threshold Settings:
- Review and adjust the threshold settings for the spool request queue. This can be done in the SAP system configuration settings.
Optimize Print Jobs:
- If there are specific print jobs that are causing the issue, consider optimizing them to reduce the load on the spool system.
Check System Performance:
- Ensure that the SAP system is performing optimally. Check for any performance bottlenecks that may be affecting the processing of spool requests.
Related Information:
By addressing the underlying causes and implementing the suggested solutions, you should be able to resolve the RT167 error and improve the handling of spool requests in your SAP system.
