  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RSOS_SEARCH196 - TLOGO &1: View &2 of type &3 is inconsistent ?

The SAP error message RSOS_SEARCH196 indicates that there is an inconsistency in a specific view of a TLOGO (Transport Layer Object) in the SAP system. This error typically arises during the execution of certain operations related to the SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BI (Business Intelligence) environments, particularly when dealing with InfoObjects, InfoProviders, or other data modeling components.

    Cause:

The inconsistency can be caused by several factors, including:

    1. Corrupted Metadata: The metadata for the view may have become corrupted or inconsistent due to system changes, updates, or manual modifications.
    2. Transport Issues: If objects were transported between systems (e.g., from development to production), inconsistencies may arise if the transport did not include all necessary components or if there were version mismatches.
    3. Changes in Data Model: Changes made to the underlying data model (like InfoObjects or InfoProviders) without proper adjustments to dependent objects can lead to inconsistencies.
    4. System Upgrades: Upgrading the SAP system can sometimes lead to inconsistencies if the upgrade process did not complete successfully.

    Solution:

To resolve the RSOS_SEARCH196 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check the TLOGO: Identify the TLOGO mentioned in the error message and check its configuration and metadata. Ensure that all components are correctly defined and consistent.

    2. Rebuild the View: If the view is corrupted, you may need to recreate it. This can involve deleting the existing view and creating a new one based on the correct specifications.

    3. Transport Consistency: If the issue is related to transport, ensure that all necessary objects were included in the transport request. You may need to re-transport the objects or manually adjust the inconsistencies.

    4. Use Repair Tools: SAP provides various tools and transactions (like RSA1 for BW) that can help you analyze and repair inconsistencies in the data model. Use these tools to check for inconsistencies and apply fixes.

    5. Check for Notes: Search the SAP Support Portal for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error. There may be patches or updates available that can resolve the issue.

    6. Consult Documentation: Review the SAP documentation related to the specific components involved (e.g., InfoObjects, InfoProviders) to ensure that you are following best practices.

    7. Contact SAP Support: If the issue persists after trying the above steps, consider reaching out to SAP Support for further assistance. Provide them with detailed information about the error and the steps you have already taken.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) for BW, SE11 (Data Dictionary), and SE80 (Object Navigator) for checking object definitions.
    • SAP Notes: Regularly check for SAP Notes related to your version of SAP BW/BI, as they may contain important fixes or recommendations.
    • System Logs: Review system logs (SM21) and short dumps (ST22) for additional context around the error, which may provide clues for troubleshooting.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the inconsistency causing the RSOS_SEARCH196 error in your SAP environment.
