The SAP error message RSDME653 indicates that there are multiple documents with the same description in the Business Document Service (BDS). This can occur when documents are uploaded or created in the system without unique identifiers, leading to confusion or conflicts when trying to access or manage these documents.

    Cause:

    1. Duplicate Document Descriptions: The primary cause of this error is the existence of multiple documents that share the same description. This can happen if users upload documents without ensuring that their descriptions are unique.
    2. System Configuration: In some cases, the system configuration may not enforce unique descriptions for documents, allowing duplicates to be created.
    3. Data Migration Issues: If documents were migrated from another system, it’s possible that duplicates were introduced during the migration process.

    Solution:

    1. Identify Duplicates: Use transaction codes like BDS_DMS or relevant reports to identify the documents that have the same description. You can also use SQL queries if you have access to the database.
    2. Rename or Delete Duplicates: Once identified, you can either rename the documents to ensure unique descriptions or delete unnecessary duplicates. Ensure that you have the necessary permissions and that you follow your organization’s data management policies.
    3. Implement Unique Naming Conventions: To prevent future occurrences, establish a naming convention for document descriptions that includes unique identifiers (e.g., timestamps, user IDs).
    4. System Configuration Review: Review the configuration settings in BDS to see if there are options to enforce unique descriptions for documents.
    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or support for specific guidelines on managing documents in BDS.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to BDS and document management.
