Message number: 111
Message text: Display mode; master data table or text table is already locked
The master data, or text table for characteristic &V1& is already
locked by another process (master data/text upload or master data
maintenance). This has the request number &V2&.
If the request number &V2& has the prefix "MDMT_", then you are dealing
with an update process of the master data maintenance, that has been
called up by another user. In every other case it is a data load
process.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
The data cannot be maintained. The master data maintenance is called up
in the display mode.
Wait until the process with the request number &V2& has finished. Then
call up the master data maintenance again.

RSDMD111
- Display mode; master data table or text table is already locked ?The SAP error message RSDMD111, which states "Display mode; master data table or text table is already locked," typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when there is an attempt to access or modify master data that is currently locked by another process. This can happen during data loading, data processing, or when multiple users are trying to access the same data simultaneously.
Causes:
- Concurrent Access: Another user or process is currently accessing or modifying the master data or text table, leading to a lock.
- Data Load in Progress: A data load process (e.g., InfoPackage, DTP) is running, which locks the master data for consistency.
- Long-Running Transactions: A transaction that takes a long time to complete may hold the lock longer than expected.
- System Configuration: Certain configurations or settings in the SAP BW system may lead to locking issues.
Solutions:
- Wait and Retry: If the lock is due to another user or process, waiting for the process to complete and then retrying the operation may resolve the issue.
- Check Active Processes: Use transaction codes like SM12 (to check for locks) and SM66 (to view active processes) to identify which user or process is holding the lock.
- Terminate Long-Running Processes: If you identify a process that is taking too long and is not necessary, you may consider terminating it (with caution).
- Review Data Load Processes: Ensure that data load processes are scheduled appropriately to avoid overlapping with other operations that require access to the same master data.
- System Configuration Review: Consult with your SAP Basis team to review system settings and configurations that may be contributing to locking issues.
