How To Fix RS_HCPR_MODEL040 - Temporal join: InfoObject is time-dependent, not in the CompositeProvider

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: RS_HCPR_MODEL - Messages related to the HANA Composite Provider Backend

  • Message number: 040

  • Message text: Temporal join: InfoObject is time-dependent, not in the CompositeProvider

  • Show details Hide details
  • Temporal join: InfoObject is time-dependent, not in the
    CompositeProvider
The InfoObject contains time-dependent attributes, so it had to be
treated time-dependent in a temporal join.
In the CompositeProvider the InfoObject is handled as if it were
time-idependent. This is fine in case the time-dependent attributes were
    hidden in the Eclipse editor.
In case the InfoObject should be treated time-dependent it has to be
replaced by itself - then the CompositeProvider gets updated with the
current metadata of the InfoObject and all time-dependent attributes.

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RS_HCPR_MODEL040 - Temporal join: InfoObject is time-dependent, not in the CompositeProvider ?

The SAP error message RS_HCPR_MODEL040 indicates that there is an issue with a temporal join in a CompositeProvider where an InfoObject is time-dependent but is not included in the CompositeProvider definition. This typically occurs in SAP BW/4HANA or SAP BW on HANA environments when working with CompositeProviders that involve time-dependent characteristics.

    Cause:

    1. Time-Dependent InfoObject: The InfoObject in question is defined as time-dependent, meaning it has different values or attributes based on the time period.
    2. Missing in CompositeProvider: The InfoObject is not included in the CompositeProvider, which is required for the temporal join to function correctly. The CompositeProvider needs to have all relevant InfoObjects that are part of the time-dependent logic.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check CompositeProvider Definition:

      • Open the CompositeProvider in the SAP BW modeling tools.
      • Verify if the time-dependent InfoObject is included in the CompositeProvider.
    2. Add the InfoObject:

      • If the InfoObject is not included, you need to add it to the CompositeProvider.
      • Ensure that the InfoObject is correctly mapped and that its time-dependent attributes are properly configured.
    3. Adjust the Join Logic:

      • Review the join logic in the CompositeProvider to ensure that it correctly references the time-dependent InfoObject.
      • Make sure that the join conditions are appropriate for the time-dependent nature of the InfoObject.
    4. Activate the CompositeProvider:

      • After making the necessary changes, activate the CompositeProvider to apply the updates.
    5. Test the Query:

      • Run a test query against the CompositeProvider to ensure that the error is resolved and that the data is being retrieved correctly.

    Related Information:

    • Time-Dependent InfoObjects: These are InfoObjects that have attributes or values that change over time. They are often used in scenarios where historical data needs to be tracked.
    • CompositeProviders: These are used in SAP BW to combine data from different sources (like InfoProviders) into a single view for reporting and analysis.
    • SAP BW Modeling Tools: This is the environment where you can create and manage CompositeProviders, InfoObjects, and other data modeling artifacts.

    Additional Considerations:

    • Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to modify the CompositeProvider.
    • If you are unsure about the implications of adding a time-dependent InfoObject, consult with your data modeling team or refer to SAP documentation for best practices.
    • Keep in mind that changes to the CompositeProvider may affect existing queries and reports, so thorough testing is recommended after making modifications.
