What causes this issue?

All the prerequisites for creating, changing or undoing a reference
have been fulfilled and all the checks were successful.
The necessary prerequisites and checks depend on the reference category
chosen. The system checks for the following:
At least two transactions must be linked.
The product types and transaction types must match the reference
category. For example, you can only assign product types that belong to
product category "760" to the reference category "OPT".
Reference category "KMP" can only be used to net transactions that can
be paid jointly by the payment program for payment requests.

System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

The reference is consistent and can be saved.
