  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The update indicator "I" (= insert) is used in recipe distribution.
When you distribute document assignments, the system checks whether the
document assignment already exists before it transfers the data. Since
the document assignment to be distributed already exists in the target
    system, no data is transferred.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

Since the document assignment already exists in the target system, the
distribution can be performed in the update mode only.
You only need to change the value of the update indicator in the
structure of the general recipe to "U". You do not need to set the
    update indicator in lower-level structures.

The SAP error message RMSRCP269, which states "Document assignment &1 already exists in the target system," typically occurs during data transfer or document assignment processes in SAP systems, particularly in the context of SAP Retail or SAP S/4HANA.

    Cause:

This error indicates that there is an attempt to create or assign a document (like a purchase order, sales order, or any other document) in the target system that already exists. The system is designed to prevent duplicate entries to maintain data integrity.

    Possible Causes Include:

    1. Duplicate Data: The document you are trying to create or assign already exists in the target system.
    2. Incorrect Data Transfer: During data migration or transfer, the same document might have been sent multiple times.

      • Verify if the document with the specified identifier (represented by &1 in the error message) already exists in the target system. You can do this by searching for the document using the relevant transaction codes or reports.
    2. Review Data Transfer Logic:

      • If you are using a data migration tool or custom program, review the logic to ensure that it checks for existing documents before attempting to create new ones.
    3. Modify Data:

      • If the document already exists and you need to update it instead of creating a new one, modify your process to update the existing document rather than trying to create a duplicate.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Check SAP documentation or notes related to the specific module you are working with for any known issues or additional guidance.
    5. Error Handling:

      • Implement error handling in your data transfer process to manage such situations gracefully, possibly logging the error and notifying the relevant personnel.
    6. Contact SAP Support:

      • If the issue persists and you cannot identify the cause, consider reaching out to SAP support for assistance. They may provide insights based on the specific configuration and version of your SAP system.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Depending on the context, you may use transaction codes like SE16, SE11, or specific transaction codes related to document management to investigate existing documents.
    • SAP Notes: Search for relevant SAP Notes in the SAP Support Portal that might address this specific error or provide patches or updates.
    • Data Migration Tools: If you are using tools like SAP Data Services or LSMW, ensure that you are following best practices for data migration to avoid duplicates.
