- Entry variant no longer exists ?The SAP error message RM797 ("Entry variant no longer exists") typically occurs when you are trying to access a variant in the SAP system that has been deleted or is no longer available. Variants in SAP are used to store specific settings for reports, transactions, or programs, allowing users to execute them with predefined parameters.
Cause:
- Deletion of the Variant: The most common cause is that the variant you are trying to use has been deleted by a user or through a system process.
- Transport Issues: If the variant was transported from one system to another (e.g., from development to production), and the transport did not include the variant, it may not exist in the target system.
- Authorization Issues: Sometimes, the user may not have the necessary authorizations to access the variant, leading to the perception that it does not exist.
- Incorrect Input: The variant name or number may have been entered incorrectly.
Solution:
- Check Variant Existence: Verify if the variant still exists by navigating to the relevant transaction (e.g., SE38 for ABAP programs) and checking the variants available for that program.
- Recreate the Variant: If the variant has been deleted, you may need to recreate it. You can do this by going to the transaction where the variant is used, entering the required parameters, and saving it as a new variant.
- Transport Check: If the issue is related to transport, ensure that the variant was included in the transport request and that it has been successfully imported into the target system.
- Authorization Check: Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to access the variant. You may need to consult with your SAP security team to verify this.
- Correct Input: Double-check the variant name or number you are entering to ensure it is correct.
