  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

When the data was loaded (master data, transaction data in the InfoCube
or ODS object), characteristic values were loaded that did not exist in
the hierarchies. These characteristic values for different
characteristics have to be sorted by the remaining nodes for the
respective hierarchies and into intervals. This is not possible if a
hierarchy is activated at the same time.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

Characteristic values are sorted at the end of the loading process. At
this time it is not possible to activate hierarchies at the same time.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RH014 - Hierarchy &1 for characteristic &2 is locked (see long text) ?

The SAP error message RH014 indicates that a hierarchy for a specific characteristic is locked, which prevents any changes or updates to that hierarchy. This can occur in various SAP modules, particularly in the context of SAP HR (Human Resources) or SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when dealing with characteristics and hierarchies.

    Cause:

    1. Locked by User: The hierarchy may be locked by another user who is currently editing or has opened the hierarchy for changes.
    2. System Lock: The system may have a temporary lock due to a transaction that is still in process or has not been completed.
    3. Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to modify the hierarchy.
    4. Technical Issues: There could be a technical issue or inconsistency in the database that is causing the hierarchy to be locked.

    Solution:

    1. Check for Active Sessions: Verify if another user is currently editing the hierarchy. You can use transaction code SM12 to check for locks and see if another user is holding a lock on the hierarchy.
    2. Release Locks: If you find that a lock is held by a user who is no longer active, you may need to release the lock manually (if you have the necessary authorizations).
    3. Check Authorizations: Ensure that you have the appropriate authorizations to modify the hierarchy. You may need to contact your system administrator to verify your user roles.
    4. Wait and Retry: If the lock is temporary, you may need to wait for the other user to finish their work and then try again.
    5. Consult Long Text: The error message suggests checking the long text for more details. You can do this by navigating to the message in the SAP system and reading the additional information provided.
    6. Technical Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or technical team for further investigation, especially if it seems to be a system-related issue.
