Message number: 314
Message text: Could not rename dimensions
Dimensions have been transferred to the object using drag and drop.
For the consistent definition of an InfoCube or MultiProvider, it is
necessary to have dimensions with exactly specified names in ascending
order. The transferred dimensions (and any dimensions following the
insertion point) had to be renamed.
An error occurred during the renaming process (no new dimension name
available, for example).
As a workaround, try creating the dimensions by hand and using drag and
drop to transfer the InfoObjects to the dimensions.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- Could not rename dimensions ?The SAP error message R7I314, which states "Could not rename dimensions," typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP HANA when there is an issue with renaming dimensions in a data model or InfoObject. This error can arise due to various reasons, and here are some common causes, potential solutions, and related information:
Causes:
- Dependency Issues: The dimension you are trying to rename may have dependencies with other objects (like InfoCubes, queries, or other dimensions) that prevent the renaming process.
- Active Objects: If the dimension is currently active or in use, it may not allow renaming.
- Authorization Issues: Lack of proper authorizations to make changes to the dimension can lead to this error.
- Technical Issues: There may be underlying technical issues in the system, such as database locks or inconsistencies in the metadata.
Solutions:
- Check Dependencies: Before renaming, check if the dimension is being used in any active queries, InfoCubes, or other objects. You may need to deactivate or remove these dependencies first.
- Deactivate Objects: If the dimension is active, consider deactivating it temporarily to allow for the renaming process.
- Review Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to rename dimensions. You may need to consult with your SAP security team.
- Check for Locks: Use transaction codes like SM12 to check for any locks on the dimension or related objects. If there are locks, you may need to resolve them.
- System Consistency Check: Run consistency checks on the data model or InfoObject to identify and resolve any underlying issues.
- Use Transport Requests: If applicable, ensure that changes are being made in the correct transport request and that the request is properly released.
