  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message R7B189 - Non-cumulative key figure &1 should not be used in this InfoProvider ?

The SAP error message R7B189 indicates that a non-cumulative key figure is being used in a context where it is not allowed, specifically within an InfoProvider. Non-cumulative key figures are typically used for data that does not accumulate over time, such as rates or ratios, and they are not suitable for certain types of calculations or aggregations that require cumulative data.

    Cause:

    The error occurs when:

    1. A non-cumulative key figure is included in an InfoProvider (like an InfoCube or a DataStore Object) that expects cumulative key figures.
    2. The InfoProvider is set up to perform aggregations or calculations that are incompatible with non-cumulative key figures.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Review the Key Figure Definition: Check the definition of the key figure in the InfoObject. Ensure that it is correctly defined as a non-cumulative key figure if that is the intended use.

    2. Check InfoProvider Settings: Review the settings of the InfoProvider where the key figure is being used. If the InfoProvider is designed for cumulative key figures, consider whether the non-cumulative key figure should be included.

    3. Modify the InfoProvider: If the non-cumulative key figure is necessary, you may need to create a new InfoProvider that is specifically designed to handle non-cumulative key figures.

    4. Adjust Queries: If the error arises in a query, ensure that the query is not trying to aggregate or perform calculations on the non-cumulative key figure in a way that is not supported.

    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on using non-cumulative key figures in your version of SAP.

    Related Information:

    • Key Figure Types: Understand the difference between cumulative and non-cumulative key figures. Cumulative key figures are typically used for quantities that can be summed over time, while non-cumulative key figures are used for metrics that do not accumulate.
    • SAP BW/BI: This error is commonly encountered in SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or BI (Business Intelligence) environments, where data modeling and reporting are critical.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes or updates that may address this issue or provide additional guidance.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the root cause of the error and implement a suitable solution.
