  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message R7B188 - Non-cumulative key figure &1 cannot be used in this InfoProvider ?

The SAP error message R7B188 indicates that a non-cumulative key figure is being used in a context where it is not allowed, specifically within an InfoProvider that does not support non-cumulative key figures. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BW/4HANA when working with queries or reports that involve key figures.

    Cause:

    1. Non-Cumulative Key Figure: Non-cumulative key figures are those that do not accumulate over time, such as headcount or stock levels. They are typically used in scenarios where the value is not meant to be summed over periods.
    2. Incompatible InfoProvider: The InfoProvider you are using (like a MultiProvider, InfoCube, or DataStore Object) may not support non-cumulative key figures. This can happen if the InfoProvider is designed to handle only cumulative key figures.
    3. Query Design: The query or report may be incorrectly designed to include non-cumulative key figures in a context that expects cumulative values.

    Solution:

    1. Check InfoProvider Compatibility: Verify if the InfoProvider you are using supports non-cumulative key figures. If it does not, you may need to change the InfoProvider or redesign your query.
    2. Modify the Query: If the query is incorrectly using a non-cumulative key figure, consider removing it or replacing it with a cumulative key figure that is compatible with the InfoProvider.
    3. Use a Different Key Figure: If the analysis requires a non-cumulative key figure, consider creating a new InfoProvider or modifying the existing one to accommodate it.
    4. Consult Documentation: Review SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on using non-cumulative key figures in your version of SAP BW.

    Related Information:

    • Key Figure Types: Understand the difference between cumulative and non-cumulative key figures and their appropriate use cases.
    • SAP BW Documentation: Refer to SAP Help Portal for detailed information on InfoProviders and key figure handling.
    • SAP Community: Engage with the SAP Community forums for insights and solutions from other users who may have encountered similar issues.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes (like RSA1 for Data Warehousing Workbench) to analyze and modify InfoProviders and queries.

By addressing the compatibility of the key figure with the InfoProvider and ensuring the correct design of your queries, you can resolve the R7B188 error effectively.
