  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The time-reference characteristic for non-cumulative values must always
be the "finest" time characteristic in the InfoCube. Where possible,
this characteristic is determined automatically by the system and, if
not already contained there, must naturally be included in the
    InfoCube.
All other time characteristics of the InfoCube can be derived from the
    most detailed time reference characteristic
    Examples for this:
if calendar month and calendar year are contained in the InfoCube, the
calendar month is the time reference characteristic.
if calendar month and calendar week are contained in the InfoCube, the
calender day must be included in the structure as the finest time
    characteristic.

    How to fix this error?

Include the given time characteristic in the structure.
Define it as the reference characteristic for the non-cumulative values
(you can find this function under the menu point 'Maintain non-
    cumulative value parameters").

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message R7848 - Transfer &1 as time-ref.characteristic for InfoProvider non-cumul. values ?

The SAP error message R7848 typically occurs in the context of data transfer in SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when there is an issue with the transfer of non-cumulative values to an InfoProvider. This error indicates that the system is expecting a time reference characteristic for the non-cumulative values, but it is not being provided correctly.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Time Reference Characteristic: The error often arises when the data being transferred does not include a time reference characteristic (like a date or time dimension) that is required for non-cumulative values.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: The InfoProvider may not be configured correctly to handle non-cumulative values, or the data source may not be set up to provide the necessary time reference.
    3. Data Source Issues: The data source from which the data is being extracted may not have the required fields or may not be mapped correctly in the transformation rules.

    Solution:

    1. Check Data Source: Ensure that the data source includes the necessary time reference characteristic. If it does not, you may need to modify the data source or the extraction logic to include it.
    2. Review Transformation Rules: Go to the transformation rules for the data transfer and ensure that the time reference characteristic is correctly mapped. You may need to add or adjust the mapping to include the time reference.
    3. Modify InfoProvider Settings: Check the settings of the InfoProvider to ensure it is configured to accept non-cumulative values and that it has the appropriate time reference characteristic defined.
    4. Data Load Process: If you are using a data load process (like DTP - Data Transfer Process), ensure that the process is set up correctly to handle non-cumulative values and that it includes the necessary time reference.
    5. Testing: After making the necessary adjustments, perform a test data load to verify that the error has been resolved.

    Related Information:

    • Non-Cumulative Values: In SAP BW, non-cumulative values are typically used for key figures that do not accumulate over time, such as stock levels or balances. They require a time reference to provide context for the data.
    • InfoProvider Types: Different types of InfoProviders (like InfoCubes, DSOs, etc.) have different requirements for handling non-cumulative values. Make sure you understand the specific requirements for the type of InfoProvider you are working with.
    • SAP Notes and Documentation: Check SAP Notes and the official SAP documentation for any specific guidance or updates related to this error message, as there may be patches or additional configuration steps recommended by SAP.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the R7848 error and successfully transfer non-cumulative values to your InfoProvider.
