What causes this issue?

When editing the inspection plan, you tried to mark an inspection
characteristic as a parameter characteristic by creating a reference to
an existing master inspection characteristic.
This is not possible because the reference characteristic does not
contain any parameter characteristics.

System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

How to fix this error?

If you assign an inspection method with parameter characteristics to a
master inspection characteristic in an inspection plan, this master
inspection characteristic is marked as a <ZH>primary characteristic</>.
Even if the parameter characteristics are deleted in the inspection
plan, the master inspection characteristic is still marked as a primary
characteristic. If you want to assign another inspection characteristic
to such a primary characteristic when editing the inspection plan, you
must create a reference to the inspection characteristic number of the
primary characteristic.
In contrast, it is <ZH>not</> possible to assign an inspection
characteristic as a parameter characteristic to any master inspection
characteristic in the inspection plan. The reference characteristic must
<ZH>always</> be a primary characteristic. If this is not the case, you
must assign the parameter characteristic to an inspection method that
you will then assign to the master inspection characteristic.
