  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message QA073 - Sample calculation can't be reset because material sample &1 is locked ?

The SAP error message QA073 indicates that a sample calculation cannot be reset because the material sample is locked. This typically occurs in the Quality Management (QM) module when there is an attempt to modify or reset a sample that is currently locked for processing.

    Cause:

    1. Material Sample Lock: The material sample is locked due to ongoing processes, such as an active inspection lot, or it may be locked by another user or process.
    2. User Lock: Another user might be currently working on the same sample, preventing any changes.
    3. System Lock: The system may have a lock in place due to a transaction that has not been completed or has encountered an error.

    Solution:

    1. Check Lock Status: Use transaction code SM12 to check for any locks on the material sample. You can identify the user or process that is holding the lock.
    2. Release Lock: If you find that a lock is held by a user who is no longer working on it, you can manually release the lock (if you have the necessary authorizations).
    3. Complete Pending Transactions: Ensure that any ongoing transactions related to the material sample are completed. This may involve completing or canceling inspection lots or other related processes.
    4. Wait for Release: If the lock is due to another user, you may need to wait until they finish their work and release the lock.
    5. Consult with Colleagues: If you are unsure about the lock, consult with your colleagues or the user who might be working on the sample to understand the situation better.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as QA32 (for managing inspection lots) and QA03 (to display inspection results).
    • User Authorizations: Ensure you have the necessary authorizations to view and manage locks in the system.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or your organization's internal guidelines for handling quality management processes and sample calculations.
