Message class: PMRP_TRANSFER - Messages for PMRP_TRANSFER
Message number: 016
Message text: Maximum number &1 of iteration steps exceeded. Narrow down your selection
The number of iteration steps during BOM processing exceeded the defined
maximum.
The iteration is terminated, and this message is raised.
If the number of iterations exceeds the defined maximum number of steps,
there is one of the following reasons:
There is a recursion in the data
The selection range is too big
In the second case please limit the selection conditions further, so
that the error does not occur any more.
In most cases, you have selected the checkbox for stock transfer. So the
considered plants and work centers to be included from stock transfer
are too large. This could happen, if the considered range of plants is
empty. Then all plants that exist in the system are taken. Then you
need to narrow down these parameters.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

PMRP_TRANSFER016
- Maximum number &1 of iteration steps exceeded. Narrow down your selection ?The SAP error message PMRP_TRANSFER016, which states "Maximum number &1 of iteration steps exceeded. Narrow down your selection," typically occurs in the context of the SAP Production Planning (PP) or Plant Maintenance (PM) modules when the system is trying to perform a calculation or optimization that requires multiple iterations. This error indicates that the number of iterations needed to complete the process has exceeded a predefined limit.
Cause:
- Complex Data Set: The data set being processed may be too large or complex, leading to excessive iterations.
- Configuration Settings: The maximum number of iterations allowed in the system may be set too low for the specific scenario being processed.
- Inefficient Parameters: The parameters or constraints defined for the planning run may not be optimal, causing the system to struggle to find a solution.
- System Performance: Performance issues, such as insufficient system resources or database performance, can lead to longer processing times and more iterations.
Solution:
- Narrow Down Selection: Review the selection criteria used in the planning run. Try to limit the scope of the data being processed to reduce complexity.
- Adjust Iteration Limit: If appropriate, consider increasing the maximum number of iterations allowed in the configuration settings. This can usually be done in the customizing settings of the relevant module (e.g., PP or PM).
- Optimize Parameters: Review and optimize the parameters and constraints used in the planning run to ensure they are realistic and achievable.
- Check System Performance: Monitor system performance and resource usage. If necessary, consider optimizing the database or increasing system resources (CPU, memory).
- Run in Smaller Batches: If the data set is too large, consider breaking it down into smaller batches and running the planning process multiple times.
