SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: OIJ_EL - OIL TSW: Messages for TSW Execution Layer

  • Message number: 730

  • Message text: Open dip reading quantity is less than close dip reading quantity

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The dip quantity difference between the open and close readings for the
selection data on the TSW ticket gauge screen (that is the tank sequence
number, date, and time), is negative.
The TSW movement scenario to which the ticket is related requires a
positive result because it represents loading out of a silo object
(tank) at an origin location, or transferring from a tank into a
location's storage location (for example, 'export' storage location).
For a load scenario (tank ullage), the open dip reading must be greater
    than the close dip reading.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

Change the parameters (dip height/date/time) on the ticket gauge screen.
Another way to solve the issue is to use transaction O4_TIGER to display
the available dip readings for a given selection (plant/storage
    location/tank sequence number, and date/time).
You can also enter a tank sequence number and date(s), and use F4 to
select the dip readings in the corresponding fields (open dip and close
    dip).

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message OIJ_EL730 - Open dip reading quantity is less than close dip reading quantity ?

The SAP error message OIJ_EL730, which states "Open dip reading quantity is less than close dip reading quantity," typically occurs in the context of inventory management, particularly in the Oil and Gas industry within SAP's Oil Industry Solution (OIJ). This error indicates a discrepancy in the dip readings taken for inventory measurement, where the open dip reading (the measurement taken at the start of a period) is less than the close dip reading (the measurement taken at the end of the period). This situation is logically inconsistent, as it suggests that inventory has decreased without any withdrawals or sales, which is not feasible.

    Causes:

    1. Data Entry Errors: Incorrect manual entry of dip readings can lead to this error. For example, if the open dip reading is mistakenly entered as a lower value than the close dip reading.
    2. Measurement Errors: Inaccurate measurement techniques or equipment malfunctions can result in incorrect dip readings.
    3. System Configuration Issues: Incorrect configuration in the SAP system related to inventory management or dip reading processes may lead to this error.
    4. Timing Issues: If dip readings are taken at different times without proper reconciliation, it may lead to discrepancies.

    Solutions:

    1. Verify Dip Readings: Check the recorded dip readings for accuracy. Ensure that the open dip reading is indeed less than or equal to the close dip reading.
    2. Correct Data Entry: If an error is found in the data entry, correct the dip readings in the system. This may involve adjusting the open or close dip readings to reflect accurate measurements.
    3. Re-measure Inventory: If there is suspicion of measurement errors, re-measure the inventory to obtain accurate dip readings.
    4. Review System Configuration: Ensure that the SAP system is configured correctly for dip reading processes. Consult with your SAP administrator or technical team if necessary.
    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or user manuals for specific guidance on handling dip readings and related error messages.
    6. Training: Provide training for personnel involved in taking dip readings to minimize human error in the future.
