Message class: O3 - IS-Oil: HPM messages (goods movements, QCI, deliveries)
Message number: 308
Message text: Invalid density type passed to QCI (Quantity Conversion Interface)
In the conversion group customizing, you define a density type for each
conversion group. The following density types are available:
API gravity
Relative density (liquids)
Absolute density
Relative density (natural gas)
The Quantity Conversion Interface (QCI) has detected a situation where
an unknown density type is passed for the conversion process.
The system stops processing.
Check the customizing settings for the conversion group.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

O3308
- Invalid density type passed to QCI (Quantity Conversion Interface) ?The SAP error message O3308, "Invalid density type passed to QCI (Quantity Conversion Interface)," typically occurs when there is an issue with the density type being used in a quantity conversion process. This error is often related to the handling of materials in the system, particularly when dealing with conversions between different units of measure that require density information.
Cause:
- Invalid Density Type: The density type specified in the material master or during the conversion process is not recognized or is not valid.
- Missing Data: The required density data for the material may not be maintained in the system.
- Configuration Issues: There may be configuration issues in the Quantity Conversion Interface (QCI) settings or in the material master data.
- Incorrect Unit of Measure: The unit of measure being used may not be compatible with the density type defined.
Solution:
Check Material Master Data:
- Go to the material master record (transaction code MM03) and check the Basic Data and Purchasing views for the density type.
- Ensure that the density type is correctly defined and that the density value is maintained.
Review Unit of Measure Settings:
- Verify that the units of measure being used are correctly defined in the system and that they are compatible with the density type.
- Check the unit of measure conversion settings in the material master.
Update Density Information:
- If the density information is missing, update it in the material master. You can do this using transaction code MM02.
Check QCI Configuration:
- Review the configuration settings for the Quantity Conversion Interface in the SAP system. Ensure that the density types are correctly defined in the configuration.
Consult Documentation:
- Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for more information on the specific density types and their usage in the QCI.
Testing:
- After making the necessary changes, test the quantity conversion process again to ensure that the error is resolved.
Related Information:
If the problem persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a technical consultant who can provide deeper insights into the system configuration and data integrity.
