  • What causes this issue?

In order not to hamper the performance of the online applications,
extensive analyses and process-intensive programs (for example:
processing sequential data sets, archiving, etc.) should be run as
    backround jobs.
Analyses normally contain a very large amount of database access data.
Database access is the most intensive part of the processing of
    analysis reports.

    System Response

Because backround processing takes place separate from the online mode,
an extensive analysis in Reporting does not hamper online processing.

    How to fix this error?

The more the selection is limited, particularily the key fields (they
are mostly the first fields in the selection screen), the lower the
    number of database access data.
Fill in the key fields as necessary.
    Avoid extensive selections.
Do not make generic entries in the selection key fields.
If analyses are very extensive, start them in batch mode.
Running backround processing (batch) during a time when the system load
is less (for example during the night) does not tie up the system as
much, and thus is more efficient.
    Choose <LS>Program -> Backround processing</>.
Choose <LS>Own jobs -> and Job Preview</> to see the results (a list)
    after the job is over.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message O0005 - Please schedule large/extensive analysis for "background proc." & ?

The SAP error message O0005 typically indicates that a background processing job is too extensive or large to be handled in the current configuration or environment. This can occur in various contexts, such as during data processing, report generation, or other background tasks that require significant resources.

    Cause:

    1. Resource Limitations: The job may require more memory or processing power than is currently allocated to the background processing system.
    2. Job Configuration: The job may be configured to process too much data at once, leading to performance issues.
    3. System Load: High system load or contention for resources can exacerbate the problem, making it difficult for the job to complete.
    4. Database Locks: If the job is trying to access locked database records, it may fail to execute properly.
    5. Job Priority: The job may be running at a low priority, causing it to be delayed or not executed in a timely manner.

    Solution:

    1. Schedule Smaller Jobs: Break down the large job into smaller, more manageable tasks. This can help reduce the load on the system and allow for successful completion.
    2. Increase Resources: If possible, allocate more memory or processing power to the background processing environment. This may involve adjusting system parameters or upgrading hardware.
    3. Optimize Job Configuration: Review the job configuration settings to ensure they are optimized for performance. This may include adjusting parameters related to data selection, processing limits, or execution frequency.
    4. Monitor System Load: Use SAP monitoring tools to check system performance and identify any bottlenecks. Address any issues that may be causing high load or contention.
    5. Check for Locks: Investigate any database locks that may be affecting the job. Use transaction codes like SM12 to view and manage locks.
    6. Adjust Job Priority: If the job is running at a low priority, consider increasing its priority to ensure it gets the necessary resources for execution.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like SM37 (Job Monitoring) to check the status of background jobs and identify any issues.
