  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MM659 - You deleted UoM with last EAN, even though the material is GDS-relevant ?

The SAP error message MM659 indicates that a user attempted to delete a Unit of Measure (UoM) that is associated with a material that is relevant for Global Data Synchronization (GDS). This error typically arises when the last EAN (European Article Number) associated with a material is being deleted, which is not allowed if the material is GDS-relevant.

    Cause:

    1. Last EAN Deletion: The error occurs because the system does not allow the deletion of the last UoM that has an associated EAN for a GDS-relevant material. This is to ensure that there is always at least one valid UoM and EAN combination for materials that are part of GDS processes.
    2. GDS Relevance: The material is marked as GDS-relevant, meaning it is subject to data synchronization standards that require certain data integrity, including the presence of UoMs and EANs.

    Solution:

    1. Check UoM and EAN Configuration: Before attempting to delete a UoM, ensure that there are other UoMs available for the material. If the UoM you are trying to delete is the last one, you will need to add another UoM first.
    2. Add a New UoM: If you need to delete the existing UoM, create a new UoM for the material first. Once there is at least one UoM remaining, you can then proceed to delete the unwanted UoM.
    3. Review Material Master Data: Ensure that the material master data is correctly maintained. Check the EANs associated with the material and confirm that they are correctly linked to the appropriate UoMs.
    4. Consult GDS Settings: If you are unsure about the GDS settings or how they affect UoM and EAN management, consult with your SAP GDS configuration team or refer to the relevant SAP documentation.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may use transaction codes like MM02 (Change Material) to manage UoM and EAN settings.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may provide additional insights or updates regarding this error message.
    • Documentation: Review SAP Help documentation related to material management and GDS to understand the implications of UoM and EAN management.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the MM659 error and manage your material's UoM and EAN configurations effectively.
