Message text: No values exist for the variant-creating characteristic &
The values for the variant-creating characteristic &V1& are missing.
Example
If the variant-creating characteristic for an article is color, you also
must define the colors (for example blue and white) for which the
article is available.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Define the values for the variant-creating characteristic. Depending on
the scenario proceed as follows:
<ZH>Scenario 1</>
You defined the characteristic without using the new characteristic
value storage capability.
Define the allowed characteristic values in transaction
<DS:TRAS.CT04>CT04</> in the <LS>Values</> tab. These characteristic
values will be available in transaction
<DS:TRAS.MM41>MM41</> for the article master data.
In transaction
<DS:TRAS.MM41>MM41</> on the <LS>Characteristic Value Assignment</>
tab, select the allowed values for a generic article. If you do not
select the allowed values, all characteristic values will be available
by default.
<ZH>Scenario2</>
RESET N1
You defined the characteristic by using the new characteristic value
storage capability.
In transaction
<DS:TRAS.CT04>CT04</> in the <LS>Values</> tab, define the allowed
characteristic values by assigning the check function module
<LS>WRF_CHECK_CHAR_VAL</> to the characteristic.
To check if characteristic values have been defined for the function
module<(>,<)> go to <LS>Environment </>-> <LS>Characteristic Value
Maintenance </>or use transaction

MH087
- No values exist for the variant-creating characteristic & ?The SAP error message MH087 ("No values exist for the variant-creating characteristic &") typically occurs in the context of variant configuration or when working with characteristics in SAP. This error indicates that the system cannot find any values for a specific characteristic that is required for creating a variant of a product.
Cause:
- Missing Characteristic Values: The characteristic that is being referenced does not have any assigned values in the system. This can happen if the characteristic is not properly defined or if the values have not been maintained.
- Incorrect Configuration: The configuration profile or the variant configuration settings may not be set up correctly, leading to the system being unable to find the necessary values.
- Data Inconsistency: There may be inconsistencies in the master data, such as missing links between characteristics and their values.
- Authorization Issues: Sometimes, the user may not have the necessary authorizations to view or access the characteristic values.
Solution:
Check Characteristic Definition:
- Go to the transaction code
CT04
(Characteristic Maintenance) and verify that the characteristic in question is defined correctly.- Ensure that the characteristic has values assigned to it.
Maintain Characteristic Values:
- If the characteristic is missing values, you can add them in the same transaction (
CT04
) or through the relevant configuration settings.Review Configuration Profile:
- Check the configuration profile associated with the product. Use transaction
CU41
(Configuration Profile) to ensure that the variant-creating characteristics are correctly assigned and that they have valid values.Check Dependencies:
- If there are dependencies (e.g., constraints or rules) associated with the characteristic, ensure that they are correctly defined and do not restrict the values inappropriately.
Authorization Check:
- Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to access the characteristic values. This can be checked with the help of your SAP security team.
Testing:
- After making the necessary changes, test the configuration again to see if the error persists.
