  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message ME733 - Update print-relevant data once only per print operation & ?

The SAP error message ME733 ("Update print-relevant data once only per print operation") typically occurs in the context of printing documents related to purchasing, such as purchase orders or purchase requisitions. This error indicates that the system is trying to update print-relevant data multiple times during a single print operation, which is not allowed.

    Cause:

    1. Multiple Print Requests: The error can occur if there are multiple print requests for the same document in a single print operation.
    2. Configuration Issues: There may be issues with the configuration of the output types or the print program that is being used.
    3. Custom Code: If there is custom code or enhancements in the print program, it might be causing the data to be updated multiple times.
    4. Document Status: The document may already have been printed or processed in a way that conflicts with the current print request.

    Solution:

    1. Check Print Requests: Ensure that you are not trying to print the same document multiple times in a single operation. If you need to print multiple copies, do so in separate print jobs.
    2. Review Output Configuration: Check the output type configuration in transaction NACE. Ensure that the settings for the output type are correct and that there are no conflicting settings.
    3. Debugging: If you have access to the ABAP code, you can debug the print program to identify where the multiple updates are occurring. Look for loops or conditions that might cause the print-relevant data to be updated more than once.
    4. Check Document Status: Verify the status of the document you are trying to print. If it has already been printed or is in a status that does not allow reprinting, you may need to change its status or create a new print request.
    5. Consult SAP Notes: Check the SAP Support Portal for any relevant SAP Notes that might address this specific error. There may be patches or updates available that resolve the issue.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may use transaction codes like ME23N (Display Purchase Order) or ME22N (Change Purchase Order) to check the status of the document.
    • Output Types: Familiarize yourself with the output types relevant to your documents. You can find this in the configuration settings under NACE.
    • SAP Community: Consider searching or posting in the SAP Community forums for additional insights from other users who may have encountered the same issue.
