The SAP error message M7896, which states "Printing is not defined for movement type & in material doc," typically occurs when you attempt to print a document related to a specific movement type in the Material Management (MM) module, but the system does not have a print configuration set up for that movement type.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Print Configuration: The primary cause of this error is that there is no print configuration defined for the specific movement type in the system.
    2. Movement Type Not Supported: The movement type you are trying to print may not be configured to allow printing in the system.
    3. User Authorization: In some cases, the user may not have the necessary authorizations to print documents related to that movement type.

    Solution:

To resolve the error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Movement Type Configuration:

      • Go to the transaction code OMJJ (or SPRO for configuration).
      • Navigate to Logistics Execution > Shipping > Basic Shipping Functions > Output Control > Define Output Types.
      • Check if the output type for the specific movement type is defined. If not, you will need to create or modify the output type to include the movement type.
    2. Define Output Type:

      • If the output type is missing, you can create a new output type or modify an existing one to include the movement type.
      • Ensure that the output type is linked to the correct form and that the necessary conditions for printing are met.
    3. Check User Authorizations:

      • Ensure that the user attempting to print has the necessary authorizations to perform printing for that movement type. This can be checked in the user roles and profiles.
    4. Testing:

      • After making the necessary changes, test the printing functionality again to ensure that the error is resolved.

    Related Information:

    • Movement Types: Movement types in SAP are used to define the type of stock movement (e.g., goods receipt, goods issue, transfer postings). Each movement type can have specific configurations, including whether printing is allowed.
    • Output Determination: The output determination process in SAP allows you to define how and when documents are printed or sent electronically. This includes setting up conditions under which specific output types are triggered.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address specific issues or provide additional guidance related to printing and movement types.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP Basis or MM functional team for further investigation.
