    at each node
If you delete the assignment of the material or of the production

delete the link between the costs collected at the hierarchy level and
the orders for manufacture of the product.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message KZ153 - Deleting the assignment may cause inconsistencies: actual costs exist ?

The SAP error message KZ153, which states "Deleting the assignment may cause inconsistencies: actual costs exist," typically occurs in the context of cost accounting or controlling modules when you attempt to delete an assignment (such as a cost center, internal order, or project) that has actual costs associated with it. This is a safeguard mechanism in SAP to prevent data inconsistencies that could arise from removing assignments that have already incurred costs.

    Cause:

    1. Actual Costs Exist: The primary reason for this error is that there are actual costs recorded against the assignment you are trying to delete. SAP prevents deletion to maintain the integrity of financial data.
    2. Data Integrity: SAP is designed to ensure that financial records remain consistent and accurate. Deleting an assignment with actual costs could lead to discrepancies in financial reporting and analysis.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you have a few options:

    1. Review Actual Costs: Before attempting to delete the assignment, review the actual costs associated with it. You can do this by checking the relevant reports or transaction codes (e.g., CJI3 for project costs, KSB1 for cost center reports).

    2. Clear Actual Costs: If it is appropriate to do so, you may need to clear or reallocate the actual costs associated with the assignment before attempting to delete it. This could involve:

      • Transferring costs to another assignment.
      • Adjusting or reversing transactions that have posted actual costs.
    3. Use Alternative Methods: Instead of deleting the assignment, consider other options such as:

      • Marking the assignment as inactive if you do not want to use it anymore.
      • Adjusting the assignment settings to reflect its current status without deleting it.
    4. Consult with Finance Team: If you are unsure about the implications of deleting the assignment or how to handle the actual costs, consult with your finance or controlling team. They can provide guidance on the best course of action based on your organization's policies.

    5. SAP Notes and Documentation: Check SAP Notes or documentation for any specific guidance related to your version of SAP, as there may be updates or specific procedures recommended by SAP.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes for cost accounting, such as:
      • CJI3: Project Actual Line Items
      • KSB1: Cost Centers: Actual Line Items
      • KOB1: Orders: Actual Line Items
    • SAP Help Portal: Utilize the SAP Help Portal for detailed documentation on cost accounting and handling assignments.
