  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message KW086 - Business process &1 has already been marked for change ?

The SAP error message KW086 indicates that a business process (identified by &1) has already been marked for change. This typically occurs in the context of SAP's process management or workflow systems, where a business process is being modified or updated.

    Cause:

    1. Concurrent Changes: The error often arises when multiple users are trying to modify the same business process simultaneously.
    2. Locking Mechanism: SAP uses a locking mechanism to prevent data inconsistencies. If a process is already marked for change by another user or session, you will receive this error when attempting to make changes.
    3. Incomplete Transactions: If a previous transaction that involved changing the business process was not completed properly, it may leave the process in a state that prevents further changes.

    Solution:

    1. Check for Active Sessions: Verify if another user is currently editing the same business process. You can use transaction codes like SM12 (to check for locks) or SM21 (to check system logs) to identify active sessions.
    2. Wait and Retry: If another user is editing the process, you may need to wait until they finish and release the lock before attempting to make changes again.
    3. Release Locks: If you find that a session is stuck or has not been properly closed, you may need to release the lock manually using transaction SM12. However, be cautious with this approach, as it may disrupt another user's work.
    4. Check for Incomplete Changes: If the process was left in an incomplete state, you may need to complete or rollback the previous changes before proceeding.
    5. Consult Documentation: Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP Basis or functional team for specific guidance related to your system configuration and business processes.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as SM12 (to view and manage locks), SM21 (to view system logs), and SE80 (to access the Object Navigator).
    • User Roles and Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to modify the business process. Sometimes, restrictions can lead to errors.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message. SAP frequently updates its knowledge base with solutions for common problems.

If the issue persists after trying the above solutions, it may be beneficial to reach out to your SAP support team for further assistance.
