  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message KOSA126 - Material &1 has a Controlling level that is not "Production Version" ?

The SAP error message KOSA126 indicates that the material you are trying to work with has a controlling level that is not set to "Production Version." This error typically arises in the context of controlling (CO) and production planning (PP) modules when there is an inconsistency in the configuration of the material master data.

    Cause:

    1. Controlling Level Configuration: The material is likely configured with a controlling level that does not align with the expected "Production Version." This can happen if the material is set up for a different type of production (e.g., discrete manufacturing) or if the production version is not properly defined.
    2. Missing Production Version: The material may not have a production version assigned, which is necessary for certain types of production planning and costing processes.
    3. Incorrect Master Data: The material master data may have been incorrectly maintained, leading to inconsistencies in the controlling settings.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master Data:

      • Go to the material master (transaction code MM03) and check the relevant views (especially the Accounting and MRP views) to ensure that the controlling level is set correctly.
      • Ensure that the material has a valid production version assigned.
    2. Define Production Version:

      • If the material does not have a production version, you can create one using transaction code C223 (for creating production versions) or through the material master data maintenance.
      • Ensure that the production version is correctly linked to the BOM (Bill of Materials) and routing.
    3. Adjust Controlling Settings:

      • If the controlling level needs to be changed, you may need to adjust the settings in the controlling area or the material master to ensure it aligns with the production version requirements.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for specific guidelines on how to handle production versions and controlling levels for your specific business processes.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
