Message type: E = Error
Message class: KO - Master data for CO orders
Message number: 156
Message text: A statistical order may not contain any control parameters
You cannot settle statistical orders or apply overhead to them.
Therefore, it is not possible to create a settlement rule for
statistical orders. It is also not possible to enter the following
parameters:
Processing group
Settlement cost element
Settlement cost center
G/L account
Costing sheet
Overhead key
Results analysis key
Variance key
You can enter an "automatically posted cost center", and make a true
posting of it, in parallel to the order. You can only enter this cost
center (from Release 4.0) in the "Control" subscreen.
Undo the parameters listed above, or remove the "Order is statistical"
indicator, and if needed, the cost center that was actually posted to.

The SAP error message KO156, which states "A statistical order may not contain any control parameters," typically occurs when you are trying to create or modify a statistical order in SAP that has control parameters defined. Statistical orders are used for tracking costs and revenues without affecting the financial accounting directly, and they do not allow certain control parameters that are typically used in standard orders.
Cause:
The error arises because statistical orders are designed to be simpler and do not require the same level of detail as standard orders. Control parameters such as settlement rules, work breakdown structure (WBS) elements, or other controlling parameters are not applicable to statistical orders. If you attempt to assign these parameters to a statistical order, SAP will generate this error message.
Solution:
To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:
Check Order Type: Ensure that you are using the correct order type. If you need to use control parameters, consider using a standard order instead of a statistical order.
Remove Control Parameters: If you are indeed working with a statistical order, review the order details and remove any control parameters that have been inadvertently assigned. This includes:
- Settlement rules
- WBS elements
- Any other controlling parameters that are not allowed for statistical orders.
Create a New Order: If necessary, create a new statistical order without any control parameters to avoid the error.
Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for more information on the specific order types and their allowed parameters.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a functional consultant who specializes in SAP Controlling (CO) for further assistance.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
