Message text: Attribute in the layout does not belong to a characteristic value column
In the current layout you are using an attribute in a column that is
dependent on a planning object (that is, a combination of
characteristic values). However, no characteristic value column exists
for this attribute column. The layout is therefore incorrect.
The system terminates the current transaction, as the current layout
cannot be processed.
Branch to the transaction with which the current layout was created.
Display this layout and then choose "Check". The system should then
issue an error message with which you can identify the affected
attribute column. Create a characteristic value column for this
attribute column or correct any incorrect characteristic values in
other value columns if required.

- Attribute in the layout does not belong to a characteristic value column ?The SAP error message K9077, which states "Attribute in the layout does not belong to a characteristic value column," typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BI (Business Intelligence) when working with queries or reports that involve characteristics and attributes.
Cause:
This error usually arises when there is a mismatch between the attributes defined in the query layout and the actual characteristics or key figures being used in the report. Specifically, it indicates that an attribute you are trying to use in your report layout is not associated with the characteristic value column you are working with. This can happen due to:
- Incorrect Mapping: The attribute may not be correctly mapped to the characteristic in the InfoObject.
- Changes in Data Model: If there have been recent changes to the data model, such as adding or removing attributes or characteristics, the layout may not reflect these changes.
- Query Design Issues: The query may have been designed incorrectly, leading to the inclusion of attributes that do not belong to the selected characteristics.
Solution:
To resolve the K9077 error, you can follow these steps:
Check the Query Layout:
- Open the query in the Query Designer.
- Review the layout and ensure that all attributes used are correctly associated with the corresponding characteristics.
Verify Characteristic and Attribute Relationships:
- Go to the InfoObject maintenance in the SAP BW system.
- Check the attributes of the characteristic in question and ensure that they are correctly defined and associated.
Update the Query:
- If there have been changes to the InfoObjects, you may need to refresh or update the query to reflect these changes.
- Remove any attributes from the layout that do not belong to the characteristic value columns.
Rebuild the Query:
- If the issue persists, consider rebuilding the query from scratch, ensuring that you only include valid attributes and characteristics.
